London in Bloom awards 2018

Waltham Forest’s green credentials have been recognised by London in Bloom as our community champions have won a whole host of awards in this year’s competition.

The awards celebrate community gardeners, residents and organisations that develop and enhance green spaces across London.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment said, “I’m delighted that so many of our community champions’ hard work has been rewarded with these awards! They take great pride and I’d like to say a very big thank you for all their work to green our neighbourhoods which is truly inspirational. We’re all Team Waltham Forest and together we’re making our borough cleaner, greener and loved.”

Helen Smith and Stavros from Wood Street South Gardening Group are really happy with their Greener Street Awards, “Our goal has always been to take our love for green spaces to our community and on to our streets, to green up every available space we possibly can! Receiving this Greener Streets Award from London In Bloom is a wonderful affirmation of all that our street gardening residents have achieved.  Onwards...!”

Ralph and Elizabeth, from the Cleveland Park Residents Association said, “We would like to thank everyone that helped in any way to achieve these wonderful results. Our three streets looked a picture on the judging day and we were very pleased when the judge for London in Bloom said in his report that Cleveland Park was “A very high standard entry and a credit to all involved”.

“Thanks also to Waltham Forest Council and Stow Brothers for their support during the season. Community and street gardening is a very rewarding activity because you are always meeting people and getting to know neighbours better. We are looking forward to 2019!!

Helen Lerner from Walthamstow Village in Bloom is delighted to have won so many awards, “These fantastic results recognise the hard work put in by hundreds of volunteers from gardening communities across the borough.  "Thinking globally, acting locally" to "Green the Grey" streets helps mitigate climate change, reduces pollution, increases biodiversity, grows communities and improves mental health and well-being. If you'd like to get your road or estate blooming, we can visit and give advice to help get you started - please contact  “
