The Waltham Forest Sports Awards 2019 celebrated high achieving athletes, coaches, teams and clubs from across the borough last week at the Walthamstow Assembly Hall.
On Thursday 21 November the annual event saw Waltham Forest Council reward achievements in sport, as well as celebrating those who work to open up opportunities for the community.
Our host for the night was magician and presenter Michael J Fitch, who kept guests entertained throughout the evening. The voice of young local singer Sidney Bishop brought musical accompaniment to guests during dinner. Sidney is preparing to embark on a tour with well-known pop star Lapsley next year.
During the evening, guests also took time to remember local hero and former Leyton Orient Football Club manager Justin Edinburgh, who died in June this year. Edinburgh’s managerial guidance was instrumental in the club’s promotion back to the football league last season.
Young athletes and para-athletes from Waltham Forest were also congratulated for their achievements at the London Youth Games this year. They achieved six gold medals in various disciplines and were named the Most Improved Borough.
Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who was shortlisted for an award. Below is a roundup of all the night’s winners.
