Collecting Council rubbish

Do you dream of summer BBQs, garden parties or just relaxing in the sun? We’ve made it easier than ever for you to get your garden sorted for summer. Watch the video or scroll down to check where to put your rubbish and recycling.

Grass, hedge or tree clippings

This can all go in the brown bin or garden waste bag. Find out what happens once it’s collected

If it’s heavy or too big to fit in your bin then take it to one of our three household waste and recycling centres. You can also order a garden waste sack or additional brown bin online.

Large items

Drive your oversized rubbish to one of our three household waste and recycling centres.

Alternatively you can check to see if your item is eligible for a free large item collection.

Empty bottles, cans and other mixed recycling

You can put all of this in your indoor storage bag for recycling and empty it into the green wheelie bin when full. Find out what goes in which bin, to make sure you only put the right stuff out for recycling, if you put the wrong stuff in your green bin (e.g. food, clothes, nappies and black bags) it won’t get collected!

Leftover food

If you have any food left over you can scrape this into your brown kitchen caddy and empty it into the brown bin.

Other small stuff

Clothes or small electrical items can go into one of the public recycling banks, batteries can be taken to any council library.

If you have anything else left over which can’t be recycled you can put this in the black rubbish bin. This could be nappies, sanitary hygiene products, broken toys, wood or black plastic.
