The NHS Health Check programme aims to support prevention and early detection of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. Everyone between the ages of 40 and 74 who has not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions, are invited once every five years to have a check to assess, raise awareness and support them to manage their risk of cardiovascular disease.

In Waltham Forest, 42.6% of people aged 40 to 74 who were eligible received an NHS Health Check between 2017 to 2018 and 2020 to 2021. This is a significantly higher than both the London average of 33.0% and the national average of 28.4%.
