Emergency Hormonal Contraception (the morning after pill) should be taken within 3 days (72 hours) of unprotected sex, but the sooner you take it, the better.
Sometimes emergency contraception can be given up to 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected sex, so always ask if needed.
Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
It is available for sale at local pharmacies. You can also access emergency contraception for free from clinics, pharmacies and your GP.
