Hospitality academy

We are working in partnership with Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service offering a hospitality training academy to support residents start a career within the Hospitality industry.

After completing the 1 week customer service course, you will be guaranteed an interview with our employer partner

These placements can lead to job opportunities as well as giving an insight into the sector and valuable work experience skills to kickstart your career.

Why work in Hospitality

Regardless of your background, a career in hospitality can be immensely rewarding in so many ways. There’s never been a better time to enter the hospitality industry.

The hospitality industry is growing

The job market has never been more unstable in the UK but whilst many other industries are contracting, hospitality is becoming bigger every year and requires more and more hospitality staff. That means hospitality is one of the safest career choices that you can make! 

There’s a variety of roles in hospitality to choose from

The industry offers a wide range of opportunities. As well as chefs and waiting staff, there are concierges who are the ‘face’ of a hotel, sommeliers who are restaurant wine experts and a wide variety of other roles such as receptionists and managers, all of which have customer service as their focus.

Working in hospitality is fun

Hours can be long and the work can be tough. But working in London, one of the world’s most exciting cities lets you experience a whole world that you may never, ever see in a run-of-the-mill office job.

Your job will vary every day

The hospitality industry is all about people, you’ll never have 2 days the same. You may be working a variety of shifts or even at different locations but whatever you do, you’ll always have a constantly changing variety of people to serve and help.

In the hospitality industry, you can travel the world

The skills you learn are transferable and are needed all over the world, which means you could one day work on a cruise ship or in any other country.

Eligibility

The Hospitality Academy is only available to residents living in Waltham Forest who are:

  • Aged 19 and over
  • In receipt of employment benefits
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have a good standard of English and Maths
  • Are committed to the training programme and are genuinely interested in working in Hospitality

When is this course running?

The programme will be delivered at Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service and will run for 1 weeks

Date: Wednesday 21 June to Tuesday 27 June 2023 - This does not include the weekend

Time: 9:30am and 2:30pm

You must be available to attend for the full course.

How to apply for the Hospitality Academy Training

To register your interest please email Harpal.rull@walthamforest.gov.uk 

If successful, you will be invited to attend an information session with the opportunities Team at Waltham Forest Council who will provide you will all course details and answer any questions you may have.

You will sit a short English and Math assessment during the full registration process. This will likely take between 1 to 2 hours.

Upon completion of the customer service course, you will be invited to a job interview with one of our employer partners. Here you will have an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and why you want to start a career in Hospitality.
