In this section, we have outlined the different stages of the LGGP recruitment process, run by the Local Government Association. For the most up-to-date information, please visit the LGA’s webpage for LGG applicants.
Stage 1: Submit your application
Submit your application from October 2024 to early January 2025
To apply for the LGGP, you will need to fill in an application form and confirm that you meet the LGA’s eligibility requirements. When submitting your application, you will be asked to complete a situational judgement test. The judgement test examines your response to realistic workplace situations and your understanding of the LGGP key skills and behaviours. You can read more about the LGGP’s key skills and behaviours on the LPPG application support website page.
During this time, we will hold drop-in sessions for you to meet our current graduates, and find out a bit more about this process.
Stage 2: Complete your video interview
From January 2025
If your application is successful, you will be invited to record a video interview. You will receive guidance in advance so that you can prepare. Only the audio recording of your answers will be assessed, in order to minimise bias.
Stage 3: Attend an Assessment Centre
February to March 2025
Every candidate who has passed the video interview stage will be invited to attend a half-day virtual assessment centre. During the assessment centre, you will complete three different exercises. These will test the key skills and behaviours you will be required to use while on the scheme, giving you a flavour of the LGGP experience.
April 2025
If you successfully pass the assessment centre stage, you will have the opportunity to meet councils on the programme. We will hold drop-in sessions for you to meet our current graduates and get to know the Council and borough.
Stage 4: Attend council interviews
April to June 2025
Interviews will be allocated depending on your preferences and the availability of interview dates and spaces. You are guaranteed at least one interview at a council.
If you are successful at interview stage, you will receive an offer of employment from the council. Once you have accepted, you will become a member of Cohort 26 and your start date will be arranged for autumn 2024.
