Closed circuit television (CCTV) is used to help prevent and detect street crimes like assault, vehicle theft, drugs offences etc. We are responsible for the siting and monitoring of CCTV in our town centre.

Why do we use CCTV?

The main reasons we use CCTV in Waltham Forest is to:

  • help reduce the fear of crime
  • help deter and detect crime
  • enhance community safety
  • assist with traffic management
  • assist in supporting civil proceedings
  • discourage antisocial behaviour, including alcohol and drug related issues

We operate our CCTV system within regulations contained in the Data Protection Act 2018. The cameras are shared use for public safety and parking enforcement. We normally only hold information for 31 days.

CCTV footage requests

For civil claims (usually road traffic incidents) requests should only be made by insurers or legal representation.

This can be done through our civil claims requests online. There is an administrative charge for requests: £50 for initial enquiries and £153 for the release of footage evidence.

For CCTV footage requests relating to a crime, please report to the Police who will then contact us.
