Local councils have a duty to review and assess air quality in their area. Read our air quality reports

Where a review establishes that air quality objectives set by the Government are being exceeded, the local authority has to designate an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) and then develop an Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) setting out measures that it will take to improve air quality.

Waltham Forest designated the whole borough as an AQMA in 2001 because of exceedances of the Particulate Matter (PM10) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) objectives. We have had a series of AQAPs that have helped to improve air quality in the borough.
