Who we are and what we do

The Short Break service provides a chance for disabled children to spend time away from their carers. They'll have the chance to try out new things, have fun, and make new friends. Short breaks can give families a chance to have a break from their caring duties and to do things together.

What information we hold about you

We hold information regarding the Short Break, domiciliary care, and transition support that has been allocated to children and young adults with a disability in Waltham Forest. This information includes:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Postcode
  • Mosaic number
  • Diagnosis of disability
  • Allocation of Short Break support

Why we need your information and how we use it

The processing and use of your personal data are underpinned by our compliance with our legal and statutory obligations. This is primarily under section 25 of the Children & Young Persons Act 2008 and the Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011.

We consider your privacy important and we will only use your personal information to provide the Short Breaks service to you. We will also use it to track the level of support that each child/young person uses within a financial year.

The lawful basis for the processing

We will only ask for personal information that is appropriate and proportionate to enable us to deliver our services effectively. This is in line with legal obligations under the Children and Young Person’s Act 2008 and the Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children Regulations 2011.

In most cases, we will obtain your personal data directly from you. This will be either on registration forms or when we communicate with you. 

We will only share your data, or the data of your child, where you have provided consent.

The information will only be shared with commissioned Short Break and domiciliary care providers.

How long we will keep your information

The information will be retained until the child or young person turns 25 or is no longer receiving Short Break support.
