The Channel programme is a 'multi agency' safeguarding model. It is designed to provide early intervention in order to help and support individuals and their families at risk of being drawn into terrorism. The Channel panel is chaired by Waltham Forest Local Authority. It is attended by safeguarding professionals from key sectors including education, health, social services and the Police.
Channel is a confidential and voluntary programme. It is up to an individual or a responsible adult (where appropriate) to decide whether to take advantage of the support being offered. Support and interventions are tailored to each person and/or appropriate family members. It ranges from mentoring, counselling, mental health support and assistance with employment. This is done through specialist discussions and support with faith leaders or ideological mentors.
