A Homeshare matches up a householder and a homesharer. A householder is someone who may be feeling isolated and is looking for companionship and practical support in order to remain in their own home. A homesharer is someone who will move into the householder's home in order to provide that support and company. They also offer peace of mind of being an overnight presence in the householder's home.
How a homesharer might help
A homesharer is not able to provide personal care or help with medication. They are able to offer practical help and support such as:
- Basic household chores
- Cooking
- Gardening
- Companionship
- Food shopping
- Basic IT skills
- An overnight presence in your home
Each Homeshare is bespoke and your individual needs will be discussed in order to find you an ideal match.
Homeshare benefits
Homesharing benefits a wide range of people including, but not limited to:
- older residents
- those living with mental health problems
- those with physical disabilities
It helps both parties by improving mental and physical wellbeing, maintaining independence, reducing social isolation, providing companionship, and more.
Costs to be in a Homeshare
There is a set monthly fee for both the householder and the homesharer paid to Two Generations. This is to help with the costs associated with setting up and maintaining Homeshare agreements. The amount will be discussed with you before any arrangements are made. We have bursaries available for those in need so that finances do not become a barrier for those requiring support.
Who provides Homeshare services
Waltham Forest Council is working in collaboration with Homeshare social enterprise Two Generations to introduce the scheme to the borough.
Eligibility
This service is open to all those living in the borough of Waltham Forest. It is for those who have a spare room available and could do with practical help to remain independent in their own home.
You do not need to own your own home to be in a Homeshare however, landlord permission is required.
A homesharer is not a carer. It is possible to be in receipt of a care package and still sign up for a Homeshare arrangement.
