Chingford eco warriors eager to save the planet

The ‘eco warriors’ from Ainslie Wood Primary School celebrated Recycle Week with a visit to a Council event.

During Recycle Week, the Council hosted pop-up stalls across the borough for residents to learn more about what can and can’t be recycled.

Eight children from Ainslie Wood visited the Chingford stall with clipboards, eager to quiz our team on all things recycling.

This group are called the ‘eco warriors’ with two environmental enthusiasts from years three to six represented.

When they visited the stall, they asked a number of questions, such as:

• What can we do as a school to help the environment?
• If we don’t recycle, what will our planet look like in 10 years?
• Where does our recycling go?

Kerri-Ann Newman, a Support Lead and Eco Leader at the school, said, “The kids had a lovely time coming out to see the recycling pop-up stall. They managed to ask all the questions they had written down and asked me when we were going to the next event.”

One of the children added, “We really enjoy what we do to help the environment and we are very keen to spread the word.”

In addition to learning about recycling, the ‘eco warriors’ have previously been litter picking and painted stones outside of the school with messaging about the environmental.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Cabinet Member for Climate, said, “It is so fantastic to see how enthusiastic and passionate these eco warriors are about saving our planet.

“The children are our future, but we also need to act now. We need more eco warriors championing climate-friendly choices and passing on the messages to their parents. They can help their parents rethink their habits and start recycling more.”
