National Apprenticeship Week 2024

In Waltham Forest, we recently took part in National Apprenticeship Week, the seventeenth annual celebration of all things apprenticeships. Apprenticeships are paid roles that allow you to learn while you work, gaining both work experience and a formal qualification and can be undertaken in a wide variety of sectors.

During the week our Employment Opportunities Team, in partnership with the Jobcentre Plus, held an Apprenticeship Jobs Fair at Waltham Forest College, which was open to all residents of the borough. Over 500 attendees were able to meet recruiters and industry experts spanning a range of sectors, including creative industries, healthcare, education, construction, hair and beauty, and transport.

Our partners at the London Academy of Sustainable Construction (LASC, operated by SIMIAN) spent the week introducing potential apprentices and employers in the construction industry.

They held a ‘Meet the Employer’ event to help empower students in or entering the construction industry. Throughout the week, they held drop in sessions with a range of employers, talking to potential apprentices.

170 guests attended and met with the over 20 companies in attendance. Attendees could try out aspects of construction for themselves in interactive workshops and demonstrations. SIMIAN also held a series of talks delivered by past apprentices.
