Background
Waltham Forest Council, in partnership with the Greater London Authority, is working to deliver improvements that will transform Sutherland Road, making it a more enjoyable place for residents, businesses and visitors.
Sutherland Road has an important role in the industrial heritage of the Upper Lea Valley and having undergone significant change in recent years is now part of a new mixed neighbourhood of residential developments and growing businesses.
Sutherland Road is also part of the recently Greater London Authority (GLA) accredited Blackhorse Lane Creative Enterprise Zone called the Blackhorse Collective.
The Improvements
Through engagement with the residents and individual businesses along Sutherland Road, we have identified a series of improvements that will make the area a more attractive place to stay, work, and visit.
The improvement works include:
- New sustainable urban drainage rain gardens with new trees
- New carriageway and junction improvements
- New and upgraded CCTV cameras
- Improvements to Mill Gardens green space
- A public art project
The improvements will give Sutherland Road a much-needed makeover since undergoing lots of changes over the past decade with the introduction of new housing and businesses.
Improvements to air quality will be achieved by planting new street trees and enhancements to public spaces will create a safer environment for all to enjoy.
Our partners
What If Projects have been appointed as the architects.
The Council will be delivering the improvements.
