Threads of Resilience Textile Exhibition
'Threads of Resilience' is a vibrant celebration of creativity, culture, and emotional well-being, showcasing the artistic journeys of Black and minority ethnic individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
This exhibition culminates a transformative six-workshop project funded by the Waltham Forest 'Make it Happen' grant program, where participants explored the rich heritage of West African textiles, including Adire, Bogolanfini (mud cloth), and Adinkra cloth, while learning monotype printing techniques on gel plates.
The workshops were thoughtfully designed and led by Anastasia Bonkanka Baita, founder of Baitaari Design, whose expertise and passion for textile art provided participants with both inspiration and a supportive creative space.
This project was held across two unique community venues: Chingford's 228 Pop-up Shop and Highams Park Station Rooms. It brought participants together to create stunning individual and collective textile artworks.
This exhibition is a testament to the power of art in mental health recovery, cultural identity, and community connection. Through 'Threads of Resilience' we invite you to witness the strength and creativity of a community reclaiming its heritage through the timeless art of African textiles.
The event runs from January 6 to January 19 2025, please check library opening times to avoid disappointment.
