Exclusion from school means that the pupil is not allowed into school for disciplinary reasons. The education authority will provide support and advice for parents of excluded children and for the child.
There are two types of exclusion:
- School suspensions for a fixed period - ranging from half a day to a maximum of 45 school days in a school year (a child can also be excluded for lunchtimes)
- Permanent exclusion - pupil is no longer allowed to attend that school
