About the scheme
The Leyton to Lea Bridge Road route involved building two new cycle routes to connect Lea Bridge Road to Leyton to improve connectivity between the south of the borough, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) and the London Borough of Newham.
The two cycle routes helped to fill key gaps in the borough’s walking and cycling network to provide safe, continuous, high-quality walking and cycling connections that link the improvements that have already taken place in Leyton, Leytonstone and Lea Bridge Road as part of previous Enjoy Waltham Forest schemes.
Route 1 connects Lea Bridge Road with QEOP via Orient Way and Temple Mills Lane, and route 2 connects the London Borough of Newham with Lea Bridge Road via High Road Leyton, Langthorne Bridge and the Leyton Town Centre area.
Consultation and engagement
As improvements were only planned at several specific locations along the route, we engaged directly with affected residents and businesses closest to each of the proposals as part of the statutory consultation process, rather than the route as a whole. This ensured we got feedback from those who were most directly affected by each of the proposals.
You can read more about the proposals in the three leaflets found in the useful documents section below.
Following the statutory consultation for the scheme, the proposals were approved by Waltham Forest Council and progressed to the construction stage, which took place in 2020.
