About North Chingford

North Chingford is a vibrant town centre which forms a gateway to the enchanting and ancient Epping Forest. The area is well-connected with good public transport links with the Overground line that runs to Walthamstow, Wood Street, Hackney and on to Liverpool Street, as well as buses that run to Essex and Hertfordshire.

There's a range of great independent shops and places to eat and drink here with good access to parks and sports and leisure facilities. Station Road, E4 hosts the North Chingford Village Market that takes place every second Saturday of the month. Follow @socialstreetmarkets and @aceevents_ltd on Instagram to find out more.

Heritage and community

North Chingford is rich in heritage and has a distinct character that can be enhanced and celebrated through heritage-led regeneration. There's the potential to enhance the town centre by developing the evening economy. Improvements to the station forecourt also to access and wayfinding.

There are two conservation areas, the Chingford Green conservation area and the newly designated Station Road conservation area which was formally adopted in 2023.

The Council has been working with local groups to improve North Chingford.

We supported the Chingford Historical Society to create the North Chingford Heritage Trail map to celebrate the rich history of the area. Find out more and download a Heritage Trail map.

In February 2023, we supported the Love North Chingford group by helping to fund the refurbishment of disused spaces in Chingford Station to develop a Community Hub with activity rooms for hire, workspace and arts basement. (pictured above)

Station Road Pocket Park sign

Since 2021, the Council has worked with the Love North Chingford Community group to develop a new pocket park on Station Road, on land owned by UK Power Networks which was previously an overgrown and unusable space next to Chingford Library.

The pocket park now has play space, seating and new planting which was selected, planted and is being maintained by dedicated local gardening volunteers. We are planning more improvements to the space and to hold story telling sessions for children in the pocket park in the summer.

We are also working with Love North Chingford to design and install a new Village Sign on Station Road in summer 2024, watch this space!
